Greetings Starfighter!
I figured since I'm about to post my first movie review
that I'd post the 10 point grading scale that I'm going to use to rate
them, explain what each one means, and then give an example or two of
each rating. Remember, this still goes along with my "Are You Not Entertained?!" way of looking at movies.
Anyway, to the scale!
10 - Best Movie Ever: I find absolutely nothing wrong with this movie. I loved every aspect of it and will most definitely buy it on Blu Ray when it comes out. Watching this movie will forever change your movie viewing experience. (Examples: Amazing Grace, Moulin Rouge)
9 - Excellent Movie: Watching this movie was a blast. I enjoyed most, if not all of it and would be glad to add it to my collection. Will buy this movie on Blu Ray. (Ex: Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, The American President, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, The Avengers)
8 - Great movie: I had a good time watching this movie. It had a few flaws and maybe one or two bad parts, but overall it was well done. There is a good chance that I will buy this movie on Blu Ray. (Ex: Olympus Has Fallen, Inception, Pitch Perfect)
7 - Good Movie: Enjoyable, but with flaws. Usually won't leave me angry at some stupid/illogical plot twist, or the rest of the movie makes it forgivable if it does. Might buy it on Blu Ray. (Ex: The Last Samurai, Return to Snowy River)
6 - Average Movie, Borderline Good: Many redeeming qualities, but they are outweighed by it's flaws. Lacks that special something to make it a truly enjoyable experience. Parts of this movie may have left me angry at the writing because of the potential the idea had. Might catch it again if I see it on TV or on Netflix Streaming. Slight chance that I might buy it on DVD or Blu Ray if I find it cheap. (Ex: The Collector, Repo Men)
5 - Average Movie, Nothing Special: The movie was just "OK." Repeat viewings are unnecessary. (Ex: Men at Work, Whip It)
4 - Average Movie, Borderline Bad: Some redeeming qualities but overall is still not real fun to watch. (Ex: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull)
3 - Bad Movie: This movie was not fun and a waste of money. Might have one good scene or line or a taste of decent acting. (Ex: 2010 Oscar nominee "An Education", Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, 2013 Oscar Nominee "The Wolf of Wall Street")
2 - Horrible Movie: This movie was not good, a waste of money and I will never get those two hours of my life back. Everything about it was bad: bad Acting, bad script, bad special effects, bad directing, bad movie poster, bad popcorn… everything. (Ex: Showgirls, Clueless, Movie 43)
1 - Worst Movie Ever: This movie was horrid, a waste of money and I will never get those two hours of my life back, just shoot me so I never have to be exposed to that horrendous film ever again. It's continued existence is an abomination of nature and may all prints of it be cast into the fiery abyss so as to never pollute the eyes and ears of mankind again. (Ex: John Water's "Pink Flamingos." If you ever have the chance to watch this movie... DESTROY IT! Images from this movie are burned into my retinas forever and it is the only movie I know of that I have ever given a "1" rating.)
Hopefully that will help you all see where I'm coming from. :)
Until next time... are you not entertained?
